Intranet and Corporate Portal
Intranet - also referred to as Corporate Portal - is a company’s private network based upon TCP/IP protocols, protected from the outside world by a firewall and passwords.
Its main goal is to encourage and facilitate collaboration across organisational boundaries, but its main benefit is to boost new achievements and protect the company’s knowledge. Any decent Intranet has to provide an environment where the corporate knowledge is generated, shared and documented!
It is indeed a great tool to:
• Make up-to-date information and documents available to employees and collaborators in a structured way allowing them to find what they are looking for with ease;
• Provide training, encouraging workforce to develop new skills as well as improve their knowledge;
• Promote corporate culture; and
• Spread organisation’s vision and initiatives.
Main points to be considered to avoid the pitfalls of sustainable Corporate Portals:
• The definition of roles and responsibilities; and
• Maintenance politics and processes.
